What does a dental hygiene appointment include?
-
During a dental hygiene session at our state-of-the-art practice in central London, one of our hygienists will examine your gums, teeth and mouth to check for signs of gum disease, provide professional deep cleaning and offer advice on maintaining good oral health. We offer three types of appointments:
- Scale and polish - For patients who visit regularly, we'll use ultrasonic scaling to remove plaque build-ups and calculus, followed by hand polishing.
- Hygiene and stain removal - Removing stains and plaque with Airflow, a non-invasive device which uses a gentle jet of water, air and fine powder to remove plaque and bacteria from the surface of your teeth.
- New patient appointment, or for those who haven't visited in a while - Includes an assessment of your mouth, dental hygiene and Airflow stain removal treatment.

What is a dental hygienist?
A dental hygienist is a qualified dental professional registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) who specialises in preventative treatments. They're trained to expertly clean and scale your teeth, remove plaque and tartar and give personalised advice to help you keep your mouth, teeth and gums healthy.
Do I need to see the dentist before a hygiene appointment?
At The Oliver Cosmetic Dental Clinic, we offer direct access hygiene appointments, meaning you don't have to see a dentist beforehand. However, if we do discover any dental problems or infection, we'll advise you to receive treatment to address the issue.
