Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers offer a quick and effective solution to gapped teeth. These are tooth-shaped caps crafted from porcelain that are fixed to the front surface of your teeth to visually close gaps, reshape teeth and correct size variations without orthodontic treatment.

Not only do they fix gaps in your teeth, but they also offer numerous other benefits. They can improve the shape, size, and colour of your teeth, creating a more harmonious and balanced smile. In addition, these caps are stain-resistant, allowing you to maintain a bright and radiant smile for years to come.

With proper care and regular dental check-ups, porcelain veneers can last for over 15 years, making them a worthwhile investment in your oral health and confidence.

Clinic owner and principal specialist cosmetic dentist Dr Joe Oliver has over three decades of experience in the field, correcting gapped smiles with premium dental solutions.

Orthodontics

We provide a series of orthodontic treatments here at The Oliver Cosmetic Dental Clinic to straighten your smile by adjusting the alignment of your natural teeth. These include Invisalignยฎ, the worldโ€™s most popular clear aligner treatment, and fixed braces.

About us

What are gapped teeth?

Gapped teeth, clinically known as diastema, are when there are visible spaces between two or more teeth - this most commonly occurs between the two upper front teeth.

Children typically develop spaces between their teeth when their adult teeth are coming through, and this often naturally closes over time. But for some, the gaps donโ€™t close.

While this can be considered charming by some, many adults donโ€™t like the appearance of their gapped teeth and suffer from self-consciousness as a result, seeking treatment to close the gaps for a more harmonious smile.

What causes gapped teeth?

โ€ข Gentics - The most common causes of gapped teeth. Some people inherit jaw or tooth size from their parents, which can create spaces between the teeth.
โ€ข Missing teeth - If you have missing teeth, neighbouring teeth can drift and fill the space, leaving visible gaps.
โ€ข Oversized frenum - This tissue band connects the upper lip to the upper mouth, but if itโ€™s too oversized, it can form a barrier between the front teeth, which prevents them from closing.
โ€ข Childhood habits - Tongue thrusting, thumb sucking and using a dummy beyond toddler years can cause gaps between teeth.
โ€ข Advanced gum disease - This can weaken the bone and tissue supporting the teeth, causing them to loosen and shift.
