London Dental Crowns and Bridges

WHAT ARE DENTAL BRIDGES?

WHAT ARE
DENTAL BRIDGES?

Are you tired of hiding your smile because of missing teeth? Whether it is a single tooth or more, bridges from The Oliver Cosmetic Dental Clinic can provide the natural, long-lasting smile you are after.

Bridges are dental restorations that fill gaps created by missing teeth, custom-made just for you – matching the shade of your natural teeth.

They generally come in four types:

Traditional bridges

When used to replace missing teeth, a traditional dental bridge consists of two porcelain or metal crowns (caps) – one on each end – with an artificial tooth/teeth in the middle. The crowns are bonded to your natural (abutment) teeth on either side of the gap and the artificial teeth bridge the gap in between.

Adhesive bridges

If the rest of your teeth are strong and healthy, your dentist may recommend an adhesive bridge, which is a false tooth with ‘wings’ on either side of it. These wings can be bonded to the inner surfaces of your supporting teeth, without needing to prepare the neighbouring teeth for full-coverage dental crowns. This is almost always used for the front teeth.

Cantilever bridge

A cantilever dental bridge, on the other hand, has a crown on one end, not both – making it ideal for patients who only have natural teeth on one side of the gap.

Implant-supported bridge

Implant-supported dental bridges are another option for patients looking to replace one or more teeth in a row. Unlike traditional bridges, these are attached to dental implants where the tooth root would have originally been.

THE BENEFITS OF
BRIDGES

Our experts take into consideration the shape, size, and colour of your surrounding teeth to ensure that your bridge blends in perfectly with your natural smile. With porcelain finishes available, it will be difficult to tell your new tooth apart from the rest of your healthy teeth.

Our dental bridges in London can transform your smile whilst making everyday activities like eating and speaking easier and more comfortable.

Bridges also help to maintain the alignment of your remaining teeth, preventing them from shifting out of place, and prevent tooth decay by ensuring no food gets trapped in the gaps.

THE BENEFITS OF BRIDGES

WHAT ARE
DENTAL CROWNS?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap used by dentists to restore cracked teeth or broken down teeth.

Tooth crowns are designed to cover an entire tooth. To ensure a snug fit, our dentist will need to remove a small amount of enamel before bonding the new crown.

Depending on how many teeth are weak, worn down, or damaged, crowns can be made from porcelain, ceramic (zirconia), metal, or a combination of materials.

Porcelain dental crowns are mostly used for the front teeth as they look, feel, and function just like a natural tooth. They’re also the best choice if a patient has a metal allergy.

Ceramic crowns can be produced thinly to preserve more of your natural tooth structure. However, since these usually appear opaque, they’re typically used to cover the back teeth.

Crowns can also be made from metal alloys, too – usually a mixture of nickel and chromium. Due to the crown’s colour being less appealing than porcelain and ceramic crowns, these tend to be used for the teeth that are less visible and offer resistance to wear, tear, and chips.

THE BENEFITS OF
PORCELAIN CROWNS

Porcelain crowns are a popular dental treatment that can transform your teeth and give you the confidence to show off your smile. DENTAL BRIDGES AND DENTAL CROWNS FAQS:

What happens during a dental bridge procedure?

If you’re considering a dental bridge to replace missing teeth, the first step is to book an appointment at The Oliver Cosmetic Dental Clinic.

During your initial consultation, our dentist will examine your teeth, talk you through the different dental bridges available, and recommend the most suitable treatment option for your dental care needs.

We’ll also discuss the cost of dental bridges in London, including the various payment options we offer to help make your treatment more accessible.

In your second visit to our clinic, we will administer a local anaesthetic to ensure maximum comfort while our dentist removes a small amount of tooth enamel from your abutment teeth.

We’ll take all the impressions we need and send them to the lab where a technician will create your final bridge. In the meantime, you’ll be given a temporary bridge to wear.

When you next visit us, we will remove your temporary dental bridge and check the fit of your new fixed bridge before bonding it in place.

How long is the dental crown procedure?

When it comes to dental crowns, London patients can expect treatment to take at least two visits to our clinic.

During the first visit, we will remove any weakened parts of the tooth and prepare it for a temporary crown.

At your next appointment, once your permanent crown is ready, we’ll take out the temporary crown fitted and secure the new one in place – ensuring a comfortable fit with the rest of your natural teeth.

With proper care, dental crowns in London will last for many years. Our dentist will advise you on the lifespan of your crown and how best to maintain it.

Are dental crowns painful?

Most patients can resume routine activities immediately after crown placement – however, you may experience mild sensitivity.

This usually subsides within a couple of weeks but, if necessary, over-the-counter pain relief such as ibuprofen and paracetamol can be taken to alleviate discomfort following your treatment.
