Dr. Fabio Perez - Multidisciplinary Dental Expert

Dr Fabio Perez

BDS DDS | GDC: 249156

Dr Fabio Perez graduated from Barcelona University in 2013 and since has been adding and implementing all specialties in dentistry at postgraduate level to his belt to have a wide eye in his multidisciplinary approach, which allows him to diagnose and treatment plan in a holistic way with the patient’s best interest at the forefront.

Following his graduation he then relocated to the United Kingdom to gain experience, and after 4 years in the North and Midlands, he decided to embark in his first postgraduate education program experience, the Advanced Aesthetic Program for International Dentists at New York University – College of Dentistry (345 E 24th St, New York, NY, USA) in 2018. This full-time program gave him the first and foremost wide approach in his diagnostic tools as he was able to assess the mouth as a whole entity instead of breaking it down in tooth by tooth, but more importantly taking care of the human being that has to go through the best experience possible. After mastering this approach, he is now capable to carry out complex multidisciplinary full mouth rehabilitation cases including severe wear cases or occlusal dysfunction, which provides the patient at the end of the journey with a full new masticatory system that would potentially last for 20-40 years. Included in this group of severe problems he is able to diagnose and treat jaw joint dysfunction or sleep apnea as well, this later one in collaboration with medical doctors to mention some.

Graduating from New York University was one of Dr Perez’s first achievements, but that was only the beginning. A second program being a Fellowship in Aesthetic Dentistry full time program was granted due to merits and allowed him to take his first steps in Leadership to guide junior dentists and being able to help them grow.

In his return to Europe at the beginning of 2020 and facing the hardest challenging times during the Covid-19 pandemic, he then started to establish himself in the World-renowned medical hub Harley Street, where he has continued to grow for the past 5 years. During this period, he has been able to master his skills in Aesthetic dentistry, specializing in Feldspathic Porcelain Veneers, which are made of the most aesthetic and natural material that can be used to restore the form, function, and look of someone’s smile.

Having the challenges to carry out complete mouth rehabilitations in most cases where teeth are not ideally positioned, Dr Perez then started to include orthodontics in his approach, which led him to begin a Masters in Science in Orthodontics (MSc Ortho), one of the most complicated and rewarding specialties in dentistry. This paramount program undertaken in Malaga, Spain for several years (2022-2024) allows him to prepare the mouth especially with fixed braces for the later final restorative stages. Moving teeth with orthodontics Dr Perez would prepare the mouth for the stability of the system and reducing the amount of preparation allowing him to be as minimally invasive as possible with his preparations. Having the skills to utilize the different braces systems allows him to visualize the end result with much more predictability than any other clinician who does only have the orthodontic or the restorative approaches alone, and also permits that he controls the case from start to finish without having to encounter with communication issues between clinicians, and avoiding changing treatment plans or the discrepancies in the staging of the plans between dentists. In addition to his MSc Ortho, he then travelled to Brasilia, Brazil, for 1.5 years to increase his possibilities in treating complex orthodontic cases, which include orthognathic, and jaw joint dysfunction diagnose and treatment planning, with preparation and collaboration for orthognathic surgeries as his most complex cases. This type of treatment would be carried out following a diagnosis in 3D from a CBCT scan which gives a much higher level of accuracy in the diagnosis of significant asymmetric maxillas which are not possible to be treated with conventional fixed orthodontic approaches, and require of the use of skeletal anchorage with miniplates derived from the maxillofacial sector and allow to change occlusal planes and intrusion and distalisation of molars, which are the most complex tooth movements.

This type of treatment would save from many orthognathic surgeries, also simplifying the ones that are not avoidable, and would also address jaw joint dysfunction to treat the joints themselves and adapt the position of the teeth to that new jaw joint position, achieving a stable system that would potentially last for 30-40 years without movement and without the need for retention systems. Lastly, it would also decrease the amount of premolar extraction cases almost to zero, which is in the patient’s best interest from an aesthetic but more importantly from a functional point of view.

To complete his wide training in restorative dentistry, he enrolled in 2 different surgical programs, level 1 for the planning, placement and restoration of dental implants, and level 2 for the reconstruction of jaw bone defects necessary to place implants in complex cases with atrophic maxillas, where the amount of bone present for the implant placement is far from optimal, for a total of another 3 years of training.

In his last achievement he undertook his postgraduate training in Bilbao, Spain in complex root canal therapy (RCT) for those cases that require the elimination of dental pain, resolve dental abscesses, retreat root canal treatments, including the surgical approach for the access to the roots in the most complex cases where the conventional first choice of access to the nerve through the crown is not clinically possible. Utilizing CBCT scans to diagnose in 3 dimensions of the space, to be able to find root fractures, root resorptions, lateral canals and other pathologies has added extra tools to his belt, as well as being able to treat severely curved roots or access the nerve of calcified roots with 3D static and dynamic navigation.

Overall, a multidisciplinary approach that has the patient’s best interest at the forefront and that would benefit specially nervous patients and complex cases due to the close relationship that Dr Perez carefully design for his patients for them to feel supported at all times, allowing having zero communication challenges between clinicians, and giving a solid staged and predictable treatment plan options that the patient feels confident to take onboard due to his expertise and personal approach, always with the ethos and the care that everyone deserves.
